Gold prices declined during Friday’s Asian session as investors assessed renewed energy inflation risks ahead of the US employment report. Despite the pullback, bullion remained on course for its strongest weekly performance since late August.
The decline follows a recovery from approximately $3,875 on October 30 to a high near $4,145 on November 5. Friday’s retreat leaves the durability of that rebound in focus.
Prices are timestamped observations and may have changed since the quoted snapshot.
Oil rose more than 1% on Friday, renewing concerns that energy costs could keep inflation elevated and prolong restrictive interest rates. Markets were pricing roughly a 68% probability of a December Federal Reserve rate increase, according to the reported CME FedWatch reading.
An analyst cited in market reporting also linked bullion selling to investors raising cash and meeting margin requirements elsewhere. This suggests liquidity needs were temporarily weakening gold’s usual defensive appeal.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics schedules its October Employment Situation report for November 6 at 08:30 Eastern Time, equivalent to 13:30 GMT, 17:30 in the UAE .
The report covers payroll growth, unemployment and earnings. Together, these measures offer a fuller picture of labour conditions than the headline jobs figure alone.
As a conditional market scenario, stronger hiring or wage growth could reinforce expectations for restrictive policy. Softer figures could ease that pressure. Gold’s response will depend on how the results compare with expectations and how interest rate markets react.
Earlier Friday chart analysis identified the four-hour 50-period moving average near $4,007 and the $4,000 round number as nearby reference points. Above the market, the same analysis highlighted approximately $4,085, followed by the $4,125–$4,145 area. These levels reflect an earlier chart snapshot and can vary across feeds.
Gold approaches the employment release with its weekly recovery still in place, although Friday’s selling has weakened momentum. Whether the rebound continues will depend partly on the data’s implications for interest rates and the persistence of demand for cash.
