AppLovin stock surged 31% on Thursday after the advertising technology company reported record quarterly revenue, stronger-than-expected earnings and an expanded share repurchase program.

APP shares closed at $356.04, up $84.29 from the previous session. The stock traded as high as $365.33 during the day, giving the company a market capitalization of approximately $118 billion.

The rally stood out during one of Wall Street’s most severe technology sell-offs since 2025. While investors rushed to reduce exposure to artificial intelligence infrastructure companies, AppLovin demonstrated that AI businesses capable of generating immediate advertising revenue could still attract buyers.

AppLovin Revenue Reaches a Record $2.18 Billion

AppLovin generated third-quarter revenue of $2.185 billion, an increase of 55% from $1.405 billion in the same period last year. The result exceeded the approximately $2.07 billion expected by analysts.

Net income rose 72% to $1.439 billion from $836 million, producing a net income margin of approximately 66%. Diluted earnings reached $4.30 per share, above the Wall Street consensus of roughly $4.03.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased 59% to $1.842 billion. AppLovin’s adjusted EBITDA margin reached 84%, demonstrating that the company converted most of its incremental revenue into operating profit.

The combination of rapid growth and unusually high margins helped reduce concerns that AppLovin’s advertising platform had entered a period of slower expansion.

AppLovin had faced questions following previous earnings reports about the sustainability of its growth and whether improvements generated by its AI-powered advertising models could continue. The latest quarter offered stronger evidence that advertisers are increasing spending on the platform as its technology improves campaign performance.

AI Advertising Separates AppLovin From the Data-Center Sell-Off

AppLovin’s advance was particularly notable because it occurred during a broad collapse in AI-related stocks.

The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5%, leaving the index in correction territory. The S&P 500 dropped 4.4%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index plunged approximately 12%, its second-largest single-day decline on record.

Nvidia declined 9.3%, AMD fell 17.3% and GE Vernova lost 7.5%. Investors were reassessing the outlook for AI data-center construction amid high financing costs, political scrutiny, rising electricity prices and the possibility of new restrictions on large infrastructure projects.

AppLovin has a different AI business model. Rather than depending primarily on continued spending on chips, servers and power generation, the company uses machine learning to improve the placement and performance of digital advertisements.

Its platform analyzes user behavior, estimates the probability of purchases and helps advertisers allocate spending toward audiences that are more likely to convert. If its models generate better returns, advertisers have a direct financial incentive to increase spending.

That link between AI deployment and measurable revenue helped AppLovin avoid the market’s wider concern that infrastructure spending may be running ahead of near-term economic returns.

Fourth-Quarter Forecast Beats Expectations

AppLovin expects fourth-quarter revenue of between $2.365 billion and $2.395 billion. The midpoint of $2.38 billion is substantially higher than the previous analyst consensus of approximately $2.25 billion.

The company also forecast adjusted EBITDA of $1.995 billion to $2.025 billion, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 84% to 85%.

The guidance suggests AppLovin expects growth to continue during the important holiday advertising period. The fourth quarter is typically a strong season for digital advertising as retailers and consumer brands increase marketing spending ahead of year-end shopping events.

At the midpoint of the forecast, revenue would grow approximately 9% from the third quarter. Maintaining an EBITDA margin above 84% would also indicate that AppLovin can expand without a comparable increase in operating expenses.

AppLovin Expands Buyback Authorization by $3.2 Billion

AppLovin’s board approved a $3.2 billion increase to the company’s share repurchase authorization. That brought its total remaining buyback capacity to $3.6 billion as of the end of October.

During the third quarter, AppLovin repurchased or withheld 4.1 million shares at a total cost of approximately $1.4 billion. The company had around 331 million Class A and Class B shares outstanding at the end of the quarter.

The expanded authorization does not require AppLovin to immediately purchase the full amount. However, it gives management additional flexibility to reduce the share count when it believes the stock is undervalued.

The program is supported by strong cash generation. AppLovin produced approximately $1.4 billion in operating cash flow and an equal amount of free cash flow during the third quarter. That means free cash flow represented roughly 64% of revenue.

Strong cash conversion makes the buyback more credible because the company can fund repurchases with internally generated cash rather than depending entirely on new debt.

Can AppLovin Stock Sustain the Rally?

The earnings report resolved several immediate concerns. Revenue growth accelerated, margins remained exceptionally high, cash generation supported reported earnings and fourth-quarter guidance exceeded expectations.

However, AppLovin stock still faces risks after its 31% one-day increase.

The company must demonstrate that improvements from its advertising models can be repeated across multiple quarters. Competition from Google, Meta Platforms, TikTok and other advertising platforms also remains significant.

Advertising spending is sensitive to economic conditions. A slowdown in consumer demand could cause companies to reduce marketing budgets, even if AppLovin’s technology continues to improve.

Valuation will also remain important. Although the stock closed well below its 52-week high of $738.01, the latest rally sharply increased the expectations embedded in its share price.

The next major test will be whether AppLovin can meet its fourth-quarter revenue forecast while maintaining an adjusted EBITDA margin above 84%. Continued growth in e-commerce advertising and further deployment of its next-generation models could support the recovery.

For now, AppLovin’s results show that investors have not abandoned every company associated with artificial intelligence. During a historic sell-off in AI infrastructure stocks, the market rewarded a business that combined AI adoption with record revenue, expanding profits and substantial free cash flow.
