Key Takeaways

  • Spot gold traded around $4,055–$4,059 per ounce during early Asian trading, gaining approximately 0.3%–0.4%.
  • Lower oil prices eased near-term inflation concerns as markets monitored renewed US-Iran peace talks.
  • US employment data, Treasury yields and expectations for a possible September Federal Reserve rate increase could drive the next move in XAU/USD.

Gold Price Recovers Above $4,050

The gold price today moved higher on Monday, August 3, recovering from Friday’s decline as XAU/USD climbed back above $4,050 per ounce.

Spot gold rose approximately 0.4% to $4,058.79 during early Asian trading. Separate market data showed gold near $4,056.83, up around 0.34% from the previous session. Prices may vary slightly between platforms and update times.

The rebound followed a pullback toward $4,040 on Friday, when a stronger US dollar pressured the dollar-denominated metal. Gold nevertheless recorded a modest gain in July—its first monthly advance since February.

Lower Oil Prices Ease Inflation Concerns

Gold received some support after reports that US-Iran peace talks would resume on Monday. The diplomatic development pushed oil prices lower and reduced immediate concerns that an energy-price shock could intensify US inflation.

Falling oil prices may ease pressure on the Federal Reserve to tighten monetary policy aggressively. That can benefit gold because the metal pays no interest and generally becomes less attractive when bond yields and borrowing costs rise.

However, progress toward a diplomatic agreement could also reduce safe-haven demand. This leaves gold balancing the potential interest-rate benefit of lower oil prices against easing geopolitical risk.

US Jobs Data and Fed Expectations Take Focus

Traders are now turning their attention to a busy week of US labour-market releases, culminating in Friday’s employment report. Stronger-than-expected job creation or wage growth could reinforce expectations that interest rates will remain elevated, potentially pressuring gold.

The Federal Reserve held rates unchanged at its latest meeting, although three policymakers dissented. Markets were pricing in roughly a 68% probability of a 25-basis-point increase in September.

The direction of the US dollar and Treasury yields will therefore remain important. A weaker dollar or falling yield could help XAU/USD extend its recovery, while rising yields could limit gains.

Gold Price Levels to Watch

The $4,050 area is the immediate reference level following Monday’s rebound. Holding above it could keep attention to $4,080 and the psychologically important $4,100 level.

On the downside, a move below $4,040 could expose $4,000. These levels are technical reference points rather than guaranteed targets, and gold may remain volatile around economic data, Federal Reserve expectations and Middle East developments.
