The Fusaka upgrade for the Ethereum network is scheduled to launch on December 3, 2025. This upgrade comprises a collection of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) aimed at enhancing the network's performance, security, and functionality.
PeerDAS aims to improve data availability scalability. Currently, Blob data is replicated across all nodes in the network, limiting throughput. PeerDAS divides the data into shards and distributes them across a subset of nodes, reducing the load on each node. Error correction techniques are used to ensure data can be reconstructed even if some shards are missing. This will contribute to increasing Ethereum's ability to handle Rollup data more efficiently.
This adds support for secp256r1, a cryptographic algorithm widely supported in secure hardware. This will make it easier for hardware wallets and smart wallets to implement advanced security features such as multi-factor authentication.
EIP-7917 stores the block proposer selection in the state, making it easier to verify network broadcasts by smart contracts. This improves security and efficiency for applications relying on pre-confirmation protocols.
Other proposals in Fusaka include improvements in computational efficiency (EIP-7939), prevention of DDoS attacks (EIP-7825), refinement of the Blob fee market (EIP-7918), enhancement of the security of encryption operations (EIP-7883, EIP-7823), and reduction of the risk of large block attacks (EIP-7934). Additionally, the upgrade includes minor proposals to improve network management and client configuration (EIP-7892, EIP-7642, EIP-7910, EIP-7935).
The Fusaka upgrade is an important step forward in the evolution of Ethereum. By improving data availability, performance, and security, it will make Ethereum more scalable and cost-effective for a wide range of applications.
