The gold rate in UAE today moved lower as traders reduced exposure ahead of the October US employment report, which could determine whether the Federal Reserve raises interest rates again in December.
The early UAE retail benchmark for 24-carat gold fell to AED 493.25 per gram on November 6. The widely purchased 22-carat rate declined to AED 456.75, while 21-carat gold was quoted at AED 438 per gram.
Global bullion also moved lower after oil prices rebounded sharply, renewing concerns about inflation and the possibility that US interest rates will remain elevated for longer.
The following prices are quoted in UAE dirhams per gram and reflect an early retail benchmark. Rates may be updated during the day as international bullion prices and currency markets move.
Gold Type | UAE Rate Today | Previous Rate | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
24 Carat | AED 493.25 | AED 497.00 | -AED 3.75 |
22 Carat | AED 456.75 | AED 460.25 | -AED 3.50 |
21 Carat | AED 438.00 | AED 441.25 | -AED 3.25 |
18 Carat | AED 375.50 | AED 378.25 | -AED 2.75 |
14 Carat | AED 292.75 | AED 295.00 | -AED 2.25 |
The 24K gold rate declined approximately 0.75% from the previous benchmark. At the published rate, 10 grams of 24K gold would cost AED 4,932.50, while the same quantity of 22K gold would cost AED 4,567.50 before making charges, taxes and other retailer-specific fees.
The local decline reflected weaker global gold prices during Friday’s Asian trading session.
Gold fell more than 1% as the rebound in crude oil revived concerns that energy costs could keep inflation elevated. Brent crude recovered toward $100 a barrel after reports of new tanker attacks near the Strait of Hormuz raised doubts about a rapid normalization of Middle East energy supplies.
Higher oil prices can have conflicting implications for gold. Geopolitical and inflation risks may increase demand for safe-haven assets, but persistent inflation can also encourage the Federal Reserve to maintain higher interest rates.
Higher interest rates generally create a headwind for bullion because gold does not provide interest income. Rising Treasury yields can therefore make government bonds more attractive relative to the precious metal.
The latest pullback follows a strong rebound earlier in the week. Spot gold had climbed to a two-week high near $4,146 per ounce as the US dollar and Treasury yields weakened following the midterm elections. The metal later surrendered part of that advance as investors prepared for the US employment data.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics will publish the October employment report on November 6 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
That corresponds to 5:30 p.m. in the UAE and 9:30 p.m. in China.
Economists expect nonfarm payroll employment to increase by approximately 59,000 to 65,000, following a gain of only 29,000 in September. The unemployment rate is forecast to remain at 4.2%.
Average hourly earnings are expected to increase 0.3% from the previous month and 2.9% from a year earlier. The wage data may be particularly important because stronger earnings growth could indicate continued inflation pressure in the services sector.
The report is the final complete monthly employment update before the Federal Reserve’s December 9 policy decision.
Gold is likely to react through changes in the US dollar, Treasury yields and expectations for Federal Reserve interest rates.
A payroll gain above 100,000, combined with unemployment of 4.1% or lower, could strengthen expectations for a December rate increase.
Treasury yields and the dollar may rise under this scenario, potentially pushing gold back toward the $4,000 level. A decline in international bullion would likely place additional pressure on UAE retail gold prices.
A payroll increase between 50,000 and 75,000, unemployment at 4.2% and monthly wage growth of 0.3% would largely confirm existing expectations.
Gold could remain volatile between approximately $4,050 and $4,150 as traders wait for the next US inflation report and additional Federal Reserve guidance.
Payroll growth below 25,000 or an increase in unemployment to 4.3% could reduce expectations for another rate hike.
Lower Treasury yields and a weaker dollar would normally support gold. A decisive recovery above $4,150 could bring $4,200 back into focus and lift UAE retail rates.
Although higher oil prices and restrictive interest-rate expectations are weighing on bullion, broader market instability continues to provide support.
The Nasdaq Composite dropped 5.5% on Thursday as investors sold Nvidia, AMD and other stocks connected to the AI data-center expansion. The technology-led decline encouraged investors to move money into government bonds and other defensive assets.
US Treasury yields subsequently fell toward two-month lows, partly offsetting the negative effect of expectations for continued monetary tightening. The 10-year yield traded near 4.8%, while shorter-term yields also declined as investors sought safety.
Gold is therefore caught between safe-haven demand and concerns that high oil prices could keep the Federal Reserve hawkish.
The first major catalyst is the US jobs report. UAE retail prices could be updated rapidly if the data produces a large move in XAU/USD.
Buyers should also monitor the following factors:
The decline to AED 493.25 makes gold less expensive than the previous quotation, but the rate remains highly sensitive to international developments. A surprise in US payrolls or wages could determine whether 24K gold moves back toward AED 500 or extends its pullback toward the AED 480 to AED 485 area.
